Perak people have fought bravely against UMNO’s gutter politics. Let us Selangorians show that we will protect our democracy and our Eli. Please forward to all.
Talk about it tomorrow
Im really sad that Eli Wong has decided to maintain her stand to resign completely (she does deserve the hols).. but what angers me most of all was that the declaration by many newspapers etc to continue to hound her and publish what pix/video clips that was taken of her.
Talk about victimisation! What about the guys who took those pix/videos (if got video)? Why is the victim being blamed? This is ridiculous.
To me if she resigns, then those bastards who instigated this have won.. But on the other hand, this assault and vendetta cant be easy to deal with, very traumatic.
It’s sick. It really is. Declaring a vendetta is just not journalism, the worst kind of behaviour.
What is happening to our country? We get compared to poorer african countries to make our policies sound more “palatable”. Bollocks.
I shall talk about PGL etc tomorrow. Im just not in the mood today.
Been kinda hectic
seems like it’s always hectic hahahaa
CuddlyBus apparently will be another week in the workshop. Sigh. I can’t wait, really miss my car and the non reliance on others.
oh! But I’m going to see Puteri Gunung Ledang: the Musical tonight with my mum
A nice mother-daughter night out I think.
more on this tomorrow!

Some commend Wong, others slam her offer to quit
SHAH ALAM: Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong’s offer to quit her seat and position as a state executive councillor was greeted by kudos and brickbats.
Indecent photographs of the 37-year-old PKR member were sent to select newspapers, prompting her to lodge a police report and proffer her resignation, which party leaders have declined to accept.
She says the photographs, including some of her asleep, were taken without her consent.
Selangor opposition chief Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo commended her for offering to resign, saying it was the right thing to do.
Dr Mohd Khir said that it was an unfortunate turn of events but said he appreciated Wong’s move to immediately resign.
“It is good that there is a trend in Malaysia now whereby embattled elected representatives readily resign from their posts,” he said.
Bukit Selambau assemblyman and Kedah state exco V. Arumugam also resigned recently after a scandal threatened to erupt due to his alleged bigamy.
Wong’s offer to resign and the photographs themselves were the talk in Parliament in KUALA LUMPUR on Tuesday.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen said her decision to quit should be respected, adding that “she is going through tough times.”
“Her resignation shows she is taking responsibility and has integrity,” said PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar.
MCA Youth chief Dr Wee Ka Siong said all should respect her decision, and added that Barisan Nasional would be ready to face another by-election.
In ALOR SETAR, Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai questioned why Wong needed to resign when she said that she had done nothing wrong.
“She said that she had done nothing wrong and was framed, so why must she resign? Why can’t she wait for the police to conduct their investigation?,” he said after visiting the Pokok Sena Health Clinic.
In MALACCA, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said he was not surprised by Wong’s resignation and described her decision as appropriate, “considering her standing and the nature of the photos.”
“Being photographed in the nude is something Malaysians are unable to accept, in particular when it involves a state exco and assemblyman,” he told reporters after opening the 3rd Annual Conference of Asian Cities Against Drugs.
In KUCHING, National Council of Women’s Organisations vice-president Lily Yong Lee Lee said there was no need for Wong to quit.
“It is unfair to ask her to resign. If she has not done anything wrong and the people (still) want her, she need not have to resign,” she added.
Yong, also Sarawak United People’s Party Kuching branch chief and former Padungan assemblyman, said she sympathised with Wong.
In GEORGE TOWN, former de facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim expressed disappointment over the circulation of the nude photographs, saying it had taken politics to a new low.
“It’s unfortunate that people have taken advantage of her and the photographs. It’s also unfortunate that politics has become so dirty.
“Politics is never clean, but this is a new level. I feel sorry for her, but whether she should stay or not is for her to decide,” Zaid told reporters after delivering the keynote address at the Third National Self-Advocacy Conference 2009.
Zaid said the views of Wong’s constituency should also be taken into account.
“Whether she should resign as a state assemblyman depends on the constituency. If they say she should not, she should not.
“Personally, I don’t think she should resign as an assemblyman unless the people of Bukit Lanjan are so angry with her … . If they can accept (her), she should stay,” he said, adding that Wong’s position as a Selangor exco member should be left up to Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
DSAI’s take on Eli.

Anwar wants Wong to reconsider quit decision
By Adib Zalkapli
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 — Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today asked embattled Selangor state executive councillor Elizabeth Wong to rethink her decision to quit following the circulation of her naked photographs.
“Elizabeth Wong has spoken at length to Azizah and me. We have discussed the issues and we understand her reasons and the decision she has taken,” said Anwar, referring to his wife Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail.
“We have asked Eli to go on leave, we will meet her again to discuss,” Anwar told reporters at a press conference here.
He described Wong as a very important figure in the Selangor government with an excellent track record.
“Eli is a very responsible leader, has been with the party since its inception and I appreciate the widespread support for her to stay. We will invite her again and see what is best,” said Anwar.
Anwar said that he had discussed the matter with Pakatan Rakyat leaders including Pas’s Datuk Seri Hadi Awang who had asked for the issue to be resolved by PKR.
The Permatang Pauh MP described the circulation of Wong’s private photographs as part of a bigger conspiracy to destroy PKR.
“I can only use the strongest possible terms to condemn the smear tactics used against her. One can only wonder to what depths the people behind this will stoop to achieve their aims,” he added.
“The last few days must have been trying and stressful for her and her family. We hope the mass media will give her the breathing space she deserves.”
He also took the opportunity to slam Barisan Nasional leaders saying that they have no right to talk about morality.
“Let us hear from Najib first on morality,” said Anwar, referring to the deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Earlier today Wong offered her resignation as state executive councillor and Bukit Lanjan assemblyman, but was asked by Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to take leave.
Yesterday Selangor Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo asked Wong to resign immediately saying that she was morally unfit to continue as executive councillor or assemblyman.

Eli Wong’s offer to resign = admission of guilt? Pressured by party?
Posted on February 17th, 2009 by Nathaniel Tan
I’m sure those are big questions, to the middle ground.
I managed to stop by the PC at PKR HQ this morning. Having heard what everyone had to say (a substantial amount), here is my reading of this ’scandal.’
Everyone agrees that Eli is great – her constituents love her to death, her work as an Exco universally lauded, and her record as an activist stellar.
Everyone also seems to agree on her innocence – that she is a victim in this matter.
All that said, her resignation must come as a bit of a surprise.
I suppose it would, unless you really knew Eli.
As reflected in her eloquent statement, I think the consensus reached was that this could drag on for days, weeks and months. The actions of the unscrupulous excuse for a human being that exposed these pictures are unpredictable, there is no telling what more concoctions and attacks there are to come.
Fighting this battle, as many have stated, is not an impossibility, by any means.
Only someone of Eli’s magnaminity, humility, and generosity of spirit would be willing to temporarily sacrifice her own political career, and even face shameless accusers who will consider this an admission of guilt, to save the movement for a better Malaysia from being bogged down in the gutter politics of a lurid scandal.
I greatly admire her willingness to throw the spotlight away from herself, no matter how spotless she is, and back unto the rakyat – whose will will clearly be shown in the event of a Bukit Lanjan by-election.
Everyone, including and especially PKR, stands by Eli’s statement that she has done nothing wrong, and has nothing to be ashamed of.
I think you have seen and will see more of statements indicating the party’s pride in Eli’s record and performance; her loss as a result of such deplorable attacks would be a widely felt tragedy.
If her resignation is accepted, I can only imagine that it is in the same spirit in which Eli offered it.
I know many people will be disappointed and angry – who wouldn’t be? Whatever happens, Eli’s selflessness in this injustice will never be forgotten.

I’d also like to write a few words of personal testimony, having known Eli for a number of years now.
Her consistency, acumen as a politician and activist, as well as her charm and good cheer have ever been a source of delight. I’m happy to consider her an old friend, and a comrade who has paved the way for us (only just slightly) younger ones.
She was there to help my family and loved ones through my incarceration (I just noticed she still has my poster on her blog, bless her), she was also there when I basically first made the leap into politics. Ah, happier days…
Well, Eli has soldiered on for years now, without her fancy positions and titles, so I have no doubt she will continue on, strong as ever! (maybe after a short, super well deserved holiday, if she decides to take one!
Cuddly Daddy and my letters.
From me:

Dear YAB Tan Sri Khalid,
I’m writing to you as a resident in Bandar Utama, under Elizabeth Wong’s jurisdiction. She has been an exemplary ADUN with a humble approach and definitely has the rakyat’s interest at heart. I feel that the way she has been victimised and pressured is completely unacceptable.
Over the last 11 months, I have seen changes in the way things are done, much to Elizabeth’s credit. She has been earnest and hardworking. It is hard to find a public servant these days with such qualities and she has definitely earned our respect.
I urge you to encourage her to reconsider her offer to resign from her posts. We need more people like her within our government, whether state or federal.
It is our heartfelt wishes that Elizabeth remains as our ADUN.
Thank you.

From Cuddly Daddy:
_______________________________
Dear sir,
I am writing to you as a resident of Selangor and as a husband and
father living in this state, the state you LEAD. I am *NOT* writing to
you as a member of any political party, organization, association,
race or religion.
I am appalled that my State Assembly representative Elizabeth Wong
has, in recent days, been made the victim of a despicable, vindictive
and unscrupulous campaign of discreditation. I am saddened and angered
by her offer to resign this morning.
I am not a political animal, so you will have to forgive my
forthrightness. Couching my thoughts in doublespeak and innuendo is
not a strong point of mine. Last March, I voted for Elizabeth Wong
(the first time I have ever felt I *needed* to vote in my 36 years)
mainly out of desperation. Like many others, I have grown increasingly
concerned with the way the BN-led government is running this country
and I fear for the country that my children will inherit. That
Elizabeth Wong was a candidate who was smart, articulate, an activist
and a blogger were all icing on the cake and made voting for her even
more of a no-brainer for me.
In the months since that voting day, it has been a real pleasure for
me to discover that Elizabeth Wong is also a great representative for
us, the people who voted her into office. She is committed, dilligent
and has a concern for her consituents that is not only heartfelt, but
also very real. By all accounts, she has done more for the residents
of Bandar Utama (where I live, work and VOTE) in her few months in
office than was done in the years we had a BN person representing us.
The support she now has among my friends and neighbors in this area is
very real and is well-deserved and definitely well-earned.
And now she has offered her resignation for this incident in which she
is the victim. It is not fair and it is not right. And I have heard
rumours and innuendo about things that may or may not be true about
why she would do this. It is obvious that it is politically motivated.
I don’t know who has the power to reject her resignation. But if I
were a betting man, my money would be on you. And so against my better
judgement and my all-too cynical mind, I am writing to you to ask you
to reject her resignation. And in doing so, reject the disgusting game
being played here. Stand up and show us that you really do represent
*US*, the people who voted you into office. The people who voted *HER*
into office. I understand the concern your party leaders have about
the effects this would have on the upcoming by-elections in the other
states. To them, I say do what is RIGHT. The people will know. The
people see and the people will know.
Again, one last appeal. Reject her resignation if it is in your power
to do so. And let her get back to doing her good work, working with us
to make better lives for ourselves. Let us get on with the living and
the doing and the working. Because in the end, that is what the people
want and care about. And leave the political shadow play alone.
Thank you for your time. May your wisdom prevail and may you do the right thing.
Regards,
Email the MB of selangor
Cuddly DAddy and I have emailed the MB, asking him not to accept Elizabeth’s resignation. She does not deserve this.
We need good hardworking, earnest souls in govt. Let us not lose this one.
Email: khalid@selangor.gov.my
Cuddly Daddy’s email was a good one. Mine was shorter but hopefully just as heartfelt.
No no no, don’t resign!
I don’t want you to resign! Elizabeth, you are such a good ADUN and a real RAKYAT’s rep. You can rise above it, don’t let the scumbags win!
I think PKR/Pakatan needs more people like you. Don’t resign! Please don’t!

Nude photos: Wong to offer to quit
Feb 17, 09 8:32am
Selangor executive councillor Elizabeth Wong will be offering to tender her resignation from her cabinet post and state assembly seat following her nude photographs controversy.
MCPX
She will be making the annoucement at a 11am press conference to be held at the PKR headquarters in Tropicana to make the announcement.
It was reported yesterday that nude photographs of Wong, who is PKR Wanita publicity chief, were being distributed in public.
It is believed that the photographs were taken – most likely by a former boyfriend – while she was sleeping and without her consent. Apart for the photos, it is learnt that a video clip is also in circulation.
Wong, 37, has been serving as state cabinet member in charge of tourism, consumer affairs and environment for the past 11 months.
According to sources, top PKR leaders who met late last night to discuss the scandal have decided to end the controversy swiftly ahead of two key by-elections.
By-election in Bukit Lanjan
Wong was elected the state assemblyperson for Bukit Lanjan – one of the three state constituencies in the Subang parliamentary seat. The constituency covers parts of Damansara, Bandar Sri Damansara and Bandar Utama.
With her resignation as state representative, the Election Commission will have to call a by-election in the mostly middle-class constituency in 60 days.
It is expected that the EC to hold the Bukit Lanjan’s by-election at the same time as two other by-elections – Bukit Selambau, a state seat in Kedah and Bukit Gantang, a parliamentary seat in Perak.
The two other ‘bukits’ by-elections will be held on April 7.
In the general elections last year, Wong was one of the many opposition candidates unexpectedly swept into power on the back of widespread dissatisfaction against the ruling Barisan Nasional.
The PKR politician, in her maiden election campaign, polled 12,125 votes against then incumbent assemblyperson Gerakan’s Yong Dai Ying, who bagged 6,970 votes. Wong won with a majority of 5,155.
According to sources, among the likely PKR candidates to contest the Bukit Lanjan is former Gerakan Federal Territory chief and ex-deputy minister Dr Tan Kee Kwong.
Kee Kwong, who was MP for Segambut, joined PKR in August last year.
Another possible contender is ex-MCA Klang Wanita chief and former Klang MP, Dr Tan Yee Kew, who also defected to PKR last year.
Meanwhile, Kajang state assemblyperson Lee Kim Sin from PKR is favourite to fill the exco post to be vacated by Wong.
I think this is so wrong!
Im sure a few people would like to meet that moron who took Elizabeth Wong’s pictures (our ADUN) while she was asleep and sold it to the newspapers. The timing of it seems very suspicious as well. It’s an invasion of privacy etc.
then Mr. Khir Toyo said she must quit etc (see: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/98371) and compares this case to Chua SL’s situation, saying PKR has no moral value etc (which is rich coming from Bee Nnn fellas).
This is nothing like CSL’s case, cos hallo?? He was screwing around on his wife. Not only that, he just shrugged off it. At least he has the balls to quit (no pun intended hehe). In EW’s situation, it was taken by a ex-bf while she was asleep. That’s just mean, nasty. It wasn’t her intention. It’s not against the law to sleep in the nude I dont think.
wtf?1 Just when the Selangor state govt is going to bid for taking back the water company from the private one. (ok the english is bad in that sentence haha). Just when the stupidity in Perak happened.
The MM had no right to put that kind of pix up either. Im sick of all this.
The economy is on the downturn, things are going to get real tough around here. And all that they care about is lining own packets, taking back states, regardless of what the rakyat wanted.
I sincerely hope that Bee Nnn gets their butts kicked in the two by-elections.
Sigh. I feel sorry for Elizabeth. HOw horrible for her. As you well know, the police prob wont give a dang anyway, take the report and ignore it.
