A Malaysian Cuddly Family

Daily ramblings from this Cuddly Family in Malaysia…

…… Gasp..

Pak Lah and Shahrir scrambling to explain the catchphrase “Ketuanan Melayu” in the Star and sun2surf respectively.

I quote Pak Lah: “Malay supremacy meant that the Malays, as the indigenous people in Malaysia, needed to strengthen themselves to ensure they were successful and developed.” ““If they are not successful and developed, then they are not tuan (masters), therefore they will be coolies. I am sure we do not want to become coolies who do not play any role in development because we are weak and not able.”

Ok, here’s my points of contention: Why must you use the word SUPREMACY lah? I don’t think folks really care about the special priveleges/sultans etc encased in the Federal constitution (yes folks I have a copy at home! Not that I read it much haha). It’s just the wrong word to use, SUPREMACY. It just speaks volumes huh? What the heck is the if not ‘tuan’ (is he saying they would like to be masters/tuan?), then coolies? Pak Lah, Pak Lah.. (shakes her head in disappointment). Nobody wants to be coolies, whatever your background mah. It’s such colonial language, don’t ya think?

Struggles with homework..

In my case it would be struggles with housework HAHA

sigh I guess I can’t blame the kids, it’s not the most fun thing in the world to be doing writing, they have noooo trouble with any written work or even maths! but its writing word after word.. I know it’s tedious but mannnn can they drag it out.. URGH.. J2 is neat and methodical but slooow (he’s so easily distracted) and j1 has to have someone looooming over him before he can actually do anything, master of the “cicak” technique I tell you!

What is the “cicak” technique? Well my dad was the master of distraction for kids/grandkids by saying (while kid is whining/mid tantrum) “Look it’s a CICAK!” (or something).. stops em midtrack. hehe so we in the family always say “look look cicak” if someone is trying to change the subject or distract you from something else hehe

Time for me to stand there and look grimly at my kids till homework is done. Then back to the chores and dash off for a meeting with the kampung in tow. Then dash back home to ensure dinner is done. Parents are coming in today, will see them this evening, kids don’t know that they are here hehehe.

Trying a maple syrup (although I used golden syrup cos no more maple syrup) and oatmeal bread recipe. It’s smelling delicious!!!!!!! mmmmmm.. makes me hungry. Im trying a “medley of vegetables” soup blended together along with bread (doing some farmhouse loaf). Before you get toooo excited, I use a breadmaker lah. Very easy to tip in ingredients (recipes provided) and let the machine do it all :) Looooovely! As for the soup, it’s a bunch of veg (whatever I’ve got left in the fridge hehe), cut up into chunks tossed into the slow cooker with some stock (from something else, frozen), garlic, onions (small), tomatoes. Let it boil away till soft, drain some of the liquid (which becomes some stock to freeze hehe) and using a hand blender, blend till a mush. You can add some cheese in there or milk to make it creamy. I usually season it at the end if anything.

looking fwd to it!

Mothers day fantasies, vanishing Rakyat money, among other things.

Read this today among the comments of MoomyKin’s blog.

I replied her post in the comments, so I wont repeat it LOL I was telling D about it and he said so we are normal then? (toothpaste in odd places, night time vomit cleanup duty etc). I said yes we are! Just sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that LOL We aren’t the only parents who have kids who do (to us) odd things and clean up duty is so not fun. Add your own mother’s day fantasy (within polite boundaries of course LOL) to the comments or in Mumsgather’s blog.

More tales of Rakyat’s money being shifted about. Reading the responses etc, it just sounds sooo arrogant and like BN’s money is the govt’s money, bukan you punya! (not yours) Eh! I wish I could take the tee na (thin rotan/bamboo cane) to these guys sometimes hehehe oooo Nanti I kena the Sedition Act! Parliament has started! hahaha Already the swearing in has amusing stories! see Jeff Ooi’s blog on some of those.

Now I need to vacum/hoover the downstairs and clean the bathrooms, AGAIN. I must tell the story of the IKEA saga soon, maybe later today!

Have a good tuesday everyone!

Learning to read..

Saw this today. It talks about the pressure to learn to read that kids have etc. (I know it’s in America but I wonder about folks here lol).

I have to admit, I don’t spend as much time with k as I did with the Js, sounding out words, the alphabet etc. In many ways, he’s further ahead, with full on sentences, understanding, physically etc. but not with reading. He loves numbers, he can almost reach 15 and then flubs along till 20 :) Its very cute hehe He’s learning phonics in school now, I did ask his teacher (cos another friend of ours, her son is reading sentences and hes 3 months younger than k) how he was etc. She told me he’s very mature, very bright and picks up things quickly. He even sits still for story time with rapt attention, which is unusual for his age. So on that score, she told me not to worry, she thinks once he “gets it”, he will zoooooooom along as he normally does. she did tell me that first kids get more attention from parents, they get the chance I guess LOL in Kel’s school they have a number of books they have to get thru in the term so I guess it was different. They all learn in their own time I guess

With his brothers reading so well and his parents avid readers (d slower than some hehehehehe), I think he should have no prob picking up reading or a love for reading (which is my main thing, I’d love for him to love books/reading as we do). Someone once suggested to me if I was concerned, he should go for reading classes (yes, my dear folks, there are reading classes for.. 2 year olds and up….. now THAT is scary)…… Reading classes? no way! He loves stories, books and he uses his finger to move along the sentences and he can now recognise his own name. So he knows that the symbols mean something and he can recognise more letters now. So I still hold out hope that I didn’t “fail” as a parent haha.

Isn’t parenting such a crazy thing? Whoever said it was boring, is obviously not involved in their kids lives, that’s my sweeping statement for now! And if someone else said to me (AGAIN), that being a home maker makes me very free and goyang kaki (shake leg, mean nothing to do but..), needs to spend a few days in my company. haha

ok, enough whinging :) Time to do a mad thing and take the kids grocery shopping. I know how much Min loves this HAHAHAHAA

k and babies..

Yday morning we went to visit R and Y’s darling baby D at their new home. Ren had gone to church but we caught him just as he was leaving. We joined Y upstairs, she was feeding baby D. K was so sweet, he was kissing her on the head, wanted to hold her (esp. after j2 did) which we let him under our supervision, he wanted to feed her. He kept sayang and stroking the baby. He told us how much he liked this baby.

I was prepared to answer any questions reg: baby D’s cleft palate/lip etc but none of the boys asked, j1 decided that it was just a birthmark/mole or something, I had mentioned something in the car about her being a special baby or something or another but I was told by j1 that babies are all special. (what an answer from an almost 6year old!). But that being said, they accepted it all and cuddled the baby, talked to her. Warmed my heart a lot, despite my nonsense and bad days, I guess we must be doing something right, I hope! We also watched Toy story 2 there when baby d was sleeping and Y and I chatted and she gave us a tour of her new place. As we were preparing to head home, k wanted to sayang the sleeping baby (who is in the downstairs cot), I lifted him to kiss her on the head. then he asked me if we could take baby home. I said its not our baby, K, it’s auntie Y’s. he then pleaded, please mummy, I like this baby, can we take her home? I said no, but we can visit again. If you want your own baby, you have to ask daddy (Y and I had a giggle about this). J1 has said that we will have a sister soon right mummy? I said you have to ask your father. muahhahahahhahaa. What a cop out! D’s decided it’s a conspiracy!

I’ve not known k to be so loving to a baby before. the last baby, he was ok, not as bothered, although he had wanted to feed him. With toddlers or babies of certain age, he’s not so sure about. With d’s niece, he has some issues, partly if daddy is around at the same time, he gets possessive over d’s attention, even with his brothers. with Mummy, he’s not bothered LOL I guess he’s more used to me being around and having lots of kids around etc which we’ve had from time to time. Not usually with daddy around. When they had swim lessons yday, k for once was more interested in sticking like glue to d, the instructor was quite amused. They are coming along well for that, yay! J1’s confidence is building up, which is good.

Will be glad when this issue of GI joe will be over, hopefully before my bday :) Looking fwd to my parents visit too! hokay, time to get back to the routine as it were :)

I’m an angry Cuddly Mama.. in a manner of speaking.

Why you may ask? well anger is perhaps a bit strong, annoyed, dissatisfied perhaps?

Where is our taxpayers money going? Instead of going to projects for the RAKYAT, the BN govt is going to withdraw it (in terms of penang) and put RM100 million in MARA. Wtf?!?!! MARA?!!? Tourism ministry already pulling purse strings etc. This whole debacle over that guy from Gerakan who wants to “serve” in a committee (FOC mind you), and he gets bollocking from his party. Even the UMNO guys in the state gleefully refuse.

my issue with all this? Well, these guys are forgetting that they serve the RAKYAT FIRST. Not the political party, not race, not religion. THE RAKYAT. The govt money is not BN money, it’s GOVT (ie elected by the RAKYAT). They can’t seem to seperate the two. If you claim to serve the RAKYAT, why can’t you do just that? who cares if its an opposition party run state? I don’t. I, as a citizen, want to see that my country’s govt/civil service etc is run well, regardless of political party. If that’s how they will be, I wonder if the RAKYAT will get fed up enough and kick them out of govt altogether. now THAT would be something to behold. So Pakatan Rakyat better step up to the plate, mateys. Today is the first day of Parliament, it’s going to be interesting!

So this whole Balkis thing is making me sick to my stomach. RM9.9million, gone. That’s just.. sick. and this women’s sports association something or another. Their expenditure etc just makes you sick. and the sports ministry refuses to give the Special Olympics bunch RM150K saja. hurmph.

sigh. ok geram enough. Will blog on something else!

K surprised me today..

K absolutely refused to share with Su’s brood today. the other two Ks and N (who is under her care during the day) are similar age (save the younger k who is a year plus plus). He kept saying “that’s ours! no no! Give it back!” and “That’s J1’s or j2’s! no!). Sigh. They’ve been a bit cranky :( and there are too many toys out and about, I so need to declutter that place! Its such a chaotic mess. I also need to reorganise and declutter the rest of the house. cupboards wise etc. Easier to clean, get rid of unnecessary. I want a team of those “Professional Personal Organisers” to come in and sweep thru the place, help me sort etc. Bliss! :) Easily pleased huh? Pipe dream? sorta LOL I bet my mum would be pleased though hahahhahahaha I wish we could dig a basement, so d can store his comics there LOL We’d have to buy a warehouse for that..

Im so cranky sigh. So are they. poor things. Thank goodness it’s dins and bedtime!
